When people hear about alternative history they are very quick to reject the idea as outrageous and do not believe it carries any credibility. However, alternative history is a version of history that really exists which attempts to question the orthodox version taught in schools and learning institutions the world over. In reality history that is taught to everyone from a young age to an adult is only a version of history written by the victor, in this case all the colonial powers of Britain, Portugal, France, Austria-Hungarian empire. This rosy version of history allows western powers to paint an impressive picture of themselves; an image that speaks of greatness, inspiration, inventions and a time of great leap forward for humanity. It says, they were the people who brought humanity out of the dark ages, introduced civilization, education, technology and science making everyone’s lives better. The saviors of humanity at a time when the world was ignorant, backward and lived, ate and died as savages. Which means, anything that will dare to even question the notion of there being other civilizations which may have been just as sophisticated as the colonial powers is ridiculed and discredited immediately, rejected from the mainstream version of history. Take for example the site of Puma Punku which is part of a large temple complex or monument group that is part of the Tiwanaku Site near Tiwanaku, in western Bolivia, South America.

Before people of the old world, that is Europe had discovered the Americas the Tiwanaku were a very complicated and technologically advanced civilization. But, when people from Europe had landed on Plymouth rock and other locations in what would become known as North & South America, they forcefully sought to teach European customs, religions, and lifestyles on the Tiwanaku people. If they came across beautiful architecture it was either teared down, eliminated or buried under mounds of earth to enforce the allure of European power and dominance; it is only the Europeans who had the right to be seen as civilized and intellectually advanced in technology and sciences.

Several years ago History Channel ran a series of docudrama on the concept of something called ‘Ancient Aliens’ theory which stand to promote the idea that the megalithic structures built-in antiquity by Egyptians, by people at Machu Picchu, in Easter island, Stonehenge, Nazca lines in Peru and more were done so by the help of so-called ancient aliens who had visited earth a long time ago. Who in turn taught man alien technologies that aided in building these huge impossible structures, which could not have been built by primitive neolithic tools like a hammer and chisel.

Mysterious structures in the three great pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the three great pyramids of Teotihuacan and other structures above directly align themselves with Orion’s Belt in the night sky. These structures are mathematically so precise that it could only be possible by the aid of modern-day technology of computing devices, something which should have been impossible to do back then.

This giant underground city, (which has actually been found) the biggest in Turkey is large enough to house 20,000 people with everything they want, including food stores, wine and oil presses, stables, refectories, chapels, a school, communal rooms, free-flowing water and lots of and storage rooms

The Nazca Lines – etched into a high plateau in Peru’s Nazca Desert, a series of ancient designs stretching more than 50 miles has baffled archaeologists for decades. From the land the images cannot be seen but from the air amazing master pieces of art can be seen:

The above image is in Sacsayhuamán (or Saksaywaman), outskirts of Cusco, Peru, the former capital of the Inca Empire. Clear evidence that technology not invented for thousands of years was used in the construction. Large pieces of stone constructed together without the use of cement! At this site a paper cannot be passed through any of these large stone pieces demonstrating great engineering feat which is impossible to create without the use of modern-day technology, even then it takes sheer determination and effort to get it perfect!

Structures on Easter Islands that a hundreds of meters tall stand straight across the small island. Easter Island is one of the world’s most isolated inhabited islands. Its closest inhabited neighbour is Pitcairn Island, 2,075 km (1,289 mi) to the west, with fewer than 100 inhabitants.

All the above are only a tiny fraction of the impossible engineering feats done by people of antiquity. Raising questions and baffling scientists and archaeologists alike on how such huge tasks could have been carried out let alone lifted the hundred ton pieces and then transported across hundreds of miles. Some slabs of granite weigh in excess of 100s of tons at a time when people were supposed to be simple unsophisticated lives!

Although at times the series went out on a tangent and lost track of what it was trying to present there were some examples of truth within some of the shows in the series. For instance when it talks about ancient flying beings which came down to earth in some sort of flying structures and taught humanity the art of building is dotted across many pictographs and hieroglyphs of different cultures from antiquity in painting and hand crafted figures.

**Before you laugh off these examples as being insane and deem it the fantasy of a UFO fanatic, hold your horses for a minute! Although the show, Ancient Aliens named it “Aliens” if we take out some parts of the show and alter other parts of it you begin to see there appears to be some truth behind some of these apparently outrageous theories. In the Islamic scriptures, we find in Sura Bakarah [2:102}:

And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, “We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic].” And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife… And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share… Sura Bakarah [2:102]

What the above ayah indicates is there were angels and demons (like now, but less so) did continuously come and go from the earth teaching many strange and mysterious sciences only to those who desired to learn it. However, they were given stern warnings and told of dire consequences should they continue in their wrongful ways. With these extra-terrestrial knowledge it may have been possible to build these megalithic structures to worship these false Gods. What the above images of flying machines and beings shows is each civilizations attempt to capture these historical event in their own way, either though the hieroglyphs or statues. Just like a solar eclipse can be seen by anyone from any part of the world at the same time as someone else from another part world. Major events like angels coming down or even demons descending or appearing on earth will have been seen by a number of people simultaneously who would have, like most civilizations of the past, have had a written/pictograph tradition in which these occurrences would have been documented whether as images or small figures.

Also Ibn khatir (may Allah be please with him) in his Tasfir of Sura Bakarah notes the story of Suleiman (peace be upon him) and mentioned the anecdote when the Queen of Sheba (sa’ba) was discovered by one of his scouting birds.(Suleiman peace be upon him had the power to speak to animals given to him by Allah):

In brief the story goes as follows:

In Jerusalem, on a huge rock, Suleiman (peace be upon him) built a beautiful temple to draw the people to worship Allah. Today this building is known as “The Dome of the Rock.” From there, a large band of followers joined Suleiman (peace be upon him) on pilgrimage to the Holy Mosque in Mecca. After they had completed their hajj, they traveled to Yemen and arrived in the city of San’a. Suleiman (peace be upon him) was impressed by their clever method of channeling water all over their cities. He was keen to build similar water systems in his own country but did not have enough springs.

He set out to find the hoopoe (Hudhud) bird, which could detect water under the ground. He sent signals all over the hoopoe to come to him, but it was nowhere to be found. In anger, he declared that unless the bird had a good reason for its absence, he would punish it severely.

The hoopoe eventually came to Suleiman (peace be upon him) and explained the reason for its delay. “I have discovered something of which you are not aware. I have come from Sheba (Sab’a) with important news.” Suleiman (peace be upon him) became curious, and his anger subsided. The bird continued: “Sab’a is ruled by a queen named Bilkis (Bilqis), who has plenty of everything, including a splendid throne. But in spite of all this wealth, Satan has entered her heart and the hearts of her people. She rules their minds completely. I was shocked to learn that they worship the sun instead of Allah the Almighty.”

To check the hoopoe’s information, Suleiman (peace be upon him) sent a letter to the queen with the bird. He instructed the bird to remain hidden and to watch everything.

The hoopoe dropped the letter in front of the queen and flew away to hide. She excitedly opened and read it: “Verily! It is from Solomon, and verily! It reads: ‘In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, and Most Merciful; be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit with full submission).'” ( Ch 27:30-31 Quran).

The queen was very disturbed and hurriedly summoned her advisors. They reacted as to a challenge, for they felt that there was someone challenging them, hinting at war and defeat, and asking them to submit to his conditions….

So the queen sends scouts to find Suleiman (peace be upon him) and see what he can do, get information on the size of his army etc. They come back to her and report that he cannot be defeated as he has the animals also under his command as well as thousands of men. To which Bilqis decides to visit Suleiman (peace be upon him) himself personally to see for herself. Word then reaches Suleiman (peace be upon him) that she is on her way to see him in Palestine, Suleiman (peace be upon him) asks the jinns in his employ whether anyone among them,

could bring her throne to the palace before she arrived.

One of them said; “I will bring it to you before this sitting is over.” Suleiman (peace be upon him) did not react to this offer; it appeared that he was waiting for a faster means. The jinns competed with each other to please him. One of them named Ifrit said: “I will fetch it for you in the twinkling of an eye!”

No sooner had this one – who had the knowledge of the Book – finished his phrase than

the throne stood before Suleiman (peace be upon him).

The mission had, indeed, been completed in the blinking of an eye. Suleiman (peace be upon him) seat was in Palestine, and

the throne of Bilqis had been in Yemen, two thousand miles away. This was a great miracle performed by one of those sitting with Suleiman (peace be upon him).

Such a momentous event would have been seen and documented by far-reaching civilizations across many parts of the world who then would have translated this into their version of story telling, be that through depictions of ancient flying machines on a cave wall, painting or figures in flying machines.

In summary, although on the outset hearing the concept of “Ancient Aliens” may seem odd and a little disconcerting once you begin to peel back the layers of this theory there appears to be some (if not a little) bit of truth behind the layers of manufactured rubbish.
