The #MuslimBan introduced by the newly elected president of the United State of America, Donald Trump may be decisive in its intent and its goal but what has opened up as a result is a far greater cause to feel hope in the world and shows there are many good people who do still exist. It is heart warming to see thousands of people across the world expressing their rightful outrage at the ongoing havoc caused by the newly elected president.
In the west although there may be far-right groups fighting to become the mainstream views but there are also those from the opposite side standing in line to fight the fascists. Thousands of people, who may not even believe in the Islamic teachings and its views, are making a stand “as Muslims” to shoulder the unacceptable nature of Trump’s latest move here in the UK and elsewhere. It brings into focus one of the amazing deeply rooted principles in which many of people of the west live by and have grown up believing in, that is fairness and equality is for all. You can disagree with some one without needing to resort to violence..
Islamic teachings are more focused on how to deal with creation in a just way than purely being focused on worship. In these times of confusion when yobs turned “Islamic scholars” have begun to take hold of the helms of religion have unfortunately lost the great attributes which people in the west in general seem to posses; letting people live as humans, with dignity and honor even if they do not agree with you.
This was an integral part of the early Muslim communities in Medina and thereafter in places like Alhambra in Spain. Where people of all religions and none lived side by side without much friction or indiscriminate killings and chaos. Unfortunately, as with everything , the truth of a message is lost when the mantle of authority in religion becomes a political football kicked about from pillar to post when it suits and then vulnerable people who are in many respects mentally insecure brainwashed into believing they are doing Allah’s work by violently condemning the other group that does not agree with it.
At a time when large numbers of largely non-Muslims are protesting against the #muslimban many of the Muslim countries have remained silent as a means to score some religiously motivated point scoring, Sunni V Shia type of game. Let alone the Middle-east, Muslim advocacy groups who like to champion themselves as the mouth pieces of Muslims in the UK have also fallen asleep at the wheel on this occasion. Not to mention all the so-called real “Sunni” groups, the brelvi, deobandi, salafi or sufi groups who are at the throats of each other, violently in some cases, trying forcefully convert a brelvi into a deobandi (vise vera) on who holds the “real” Islam have also failed to make their voices heard, through campaigning against Trump or peacefully protesting their outrage on this and more-to-come Trump #muslimban bigotry.
Yet, like in all situations, Muslim groups are busy with infighting on which group, tareeqah, sect, organisation, or Islamic society holds the golden key to Allah’s divine presence and sole entry to paradise, to even bother to look outside their box of oddities in order to understand why the tech-tonic plates of global events may soon come knocking on their door to push them out on to the shores of foreign grounds, where religious infighting becomes the least of the problems. Just ask the surviving Jews of World War Two who suddenly had to stop their internal squabbles and stick together to survive, but then it was too late.
