Makkah al mukkaramah,
Some would claim it is ludicrous to even think, Makkah, the most holiest place in the world has been violated of its sanctity. True, as the our scriptures speak of its everlasting purity until the day if judgment. However, although it will not lose its sanctity in any clear way, either from outside the Muslim community or from within. It is nonetheless, dragging on to its doorsteps the very demonic entities which plague any metropolis. The construction of the Makkah clock tower with its adjacent blocks of commercial and residential suites is only the beginning, suffocating the already depleting traces of spiritualism left in the holy city. Makkah in twenty years from now is set to become the “sister city” of New York. With as many if not more, high raised buildings surrounding the holiest of buildings, the kabbah. The construction of more hotels, shopping malls and “halal” entertainment facilities are being added to the once humble city, on a daily basis.
Most people, if not all, by now would have read reports and seen footage of plans for the development of Makkah. Makkah has and always will be the stronghold of worship and servitude. But, as more days go by this is rapidly becoming a materialists stronghold for shopping, living in 5 star hotels and enjoying the “holiday” than anything else, far from experiencing a spiritual rejuvenation . I have been sent many reports and articles written by people on how the denigration of Makkah is happening at an alarming rate. To give you a glimpse into this spiraling increase in commercialization of Makkah, several weeks ago Paris Hilton, a western non-Muslim socialite, who is known for doing many shameless acts and appearances, opened new a handbag store in one of multi-million dollar shopping malls in Makkah! What the advocators of modernization don’t realize is that as more buildings and “chillaxing” facilities are being piled on top of the already available host of other outlets. Makkah will not have much to offer apart from a holiday experience, not that it does this already. When a new infrastructure is built on top of an already crowded metropolis, it leaves little room that the usual shenanigans which are associated with such endeavors will undoubtedly follow in its footsteps. That being, the need to fill these structures with worldly attractions; TV, games, restaurants, gyms, spa and fitness clubs etc.
The following three pictures are example of the lavish suites and fitness clubs offered at the Makkah clock tower: Something which is hard to believe is in the holiest place on earth! Even the Christians and Jews have not violated their holy sanctuaries the way Muslims have done to theirs.
It is a far cry from what Makkah used to be, a place which was only focused on pushing people to cultivate the love and admiration of Islam, Allah and his prophet (sallahu alihi wasalam) within their hearts and ultimately make this flourish in their lives. Countless articles and lamentations have been written by many people on how Makkah has lost the sparkle it once had, the sparkle to re-ignite the love of Allah and his prophet (sallahu alihi wasalam). Replaced with the bulging attractions of dunya on the very proximity of Kabbah. The hajj season each year generates 6 billion dollars worth of revenue for the Saudi authorities (Guardian). With such wealth coming in each year, the Saudi’s have sort to leave no stone unturned in attracting all the lucrative non-Muslim business men and women, some who are very immodest, into the holiest of places. Although these people may not be allowed to enter the Muslim-only city, their Muslim right hand men are being used to do business on their behalf. Take the example of the disgusting and unbelievable tale of Paris Hilton opening a store in Makkah al Mukaramah. The agents she used to open the store in makkah were muslims.
Gone are the days which would bring tears of love and yearning to be with the prophet (sallahu alihi wasalam) by looking at the same mountains of makkah which the prophet (sallahu alihi wasalam) would look at. To walk the streets that the companions of the prophet (sallahu alihi wasalam) would have walked in. Replaced with tears of joy in wanting to try new and exciting facilities available in Makkah, to have a great time and do long hours of shopping. This is the demise and violation of Makkah; allowing non-Muslim filth to do business and earn substantial amount of revenues from Muslim pilgrims. Who come to have a spiritual experience. What is more disturbing to see how destitute Muslims are living side by side the luxurious apartment buildings and commercial centers, partly, and in most cases, owned and run by non-Muslim business men and women. What the Saudi authorities are doing is bending over backs in feeding their non-Muslim counterparts and leaving the very inhabitants of makkah, the destitute and poor, hungry. The demonic entities have already seeped into the very framework of makkah, if not directly, but indirectly the evils of a metropolis are there. Not only are non-muslin business men doing business there. But, all the five-star hotels, shops, cafe bars, which surround the kabbah, have television sets which beam out all the television channels one would find in any conventional hotels across the world. From channels showing very scantily dressed women, to channel showing Hollywood and Bollywood movies.
Lastly, with the systematic demolition of the Islamic heritage sites around makkah, what can you expect would happen to makkah? The places where illustrious buildings of the companions and the pious used to stand would ultimately need to be filled. And, what better way to suffocate Muslim spiritualism further than by building in its place five star hotels with accommodation like the above pictures. It is a disgraceful state and one that is only growing as more days go by. In an attempt to curb shirk and biddah by demolishing the holy sites around makkah. The Saudis have placed a more direct form of shirk and biddah its places. That is the worship of shopping malls, relaxing in spas and gyms. When Muslims should be encouraged to spend time in the holy sanctuary worshiping Allah and sending durood and learning about the lives of the pious etc..
Makkah is in many ways a paradoxical box of surprises in the 21st century. In that, we are told to believe it is the holy place of Muslims, a place that allows a person to re-connect with Allah, yet with more attractions and comforts of dunya being added to the unsightly apartment buildings, the love of dunya is ignited and in many cases increased in a person’s heart instead of the former. As muslims continue slumber with no signs of ever awakening, the alienation of Makkah, from its original concept, continues to march ahead into a redefined holy place vastly different from what our pious predecessors would have ever dreamt of.
