Ramadan 1 –

People think, these days the taraweeh starts and finishes very late. Mentally a person considers it a very burdensome task. Frankly this is shaitanic! – Why is it?- Is it the case that Allah has taken away the 4hours from us, and only left us with 20 hours?.
No! Remember that the same 24 hours still exists as it used to before Ramadan. Just the timings have slightly changed. We still have the same 24 hours before us. For instance; People who come from work at 4pm, instead of watching TV, listening to radio, they should go to sleep. Then wake around 8pm pray asr and do his usual schedule of things. This will help regain the lost sleeping time for the night. A person who slept less at night, can using better time management in ramadan manage to maintain a stress-free ramadan.
In this way we can utilise time to our benefit, rather than letting time control and undermine us.. Sleeping will also give our bodies time to reenergise.
Allah does not do zhulm (oppression) on his subjects (people). If the nights are small, the days are long. – It compensates for each other. We simply have reorganise our times, our order of doing things.
The prophet (saw) is the most strongest and wisest person sent to the earth. Despite this: having the responsibilities of the ummah, being a father, husband, teacher, a general etc. He would sleep 4 times a day!
– Some people have come to the understanding that sleeping less is piety! This is not the case at all! We have some (people) who over sleep whereas others under sleep in the ummah. Both are wrong.
Syyiduna Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) said in his books a person should not sleep more than 8 hours. The prophet (saw) would sleep straight after esha prayer, if there is no urgent matter. Then he would wake up at midnight do some worship then sleep again and wake up at thadjud. Then rest again until Syyiduna Bilal would come and wake him up for fajr. Whilst the fourth rest he (saw) would take is after the dhur prayer for about 1/2 hour to and hour maximum.
In Ramadan we have to learn to be better at time management. When procedures are put in place in our daily chores. Our day whilst fasting will be smooth and problem-free. We will not get frustrated, angered, or upset easily.

One dua the prophet (saw) taught his companions to make frequently in Ramadan is:
‘o Allah keep me in peace whilst i am fasting in Ramadan, and keep Ramadan in peace from me’.
Many people are ‘touch and go’ in Ramadan. In that, they easily lose their sense of self control and become angry, upset and agitated easily, simply because they are fasting. When in reality the opposite should be the case. When people fast they should be more humble, quiet, do self-reflection etc. Doing this dua frequently will support people in having that extra little patience. The second part of the dua will also help a person from dishonouring Ramadan. Breaking it’s rights and responsibilities. For example, a person does not oppress, do vile and abhorrent acts in Ramadan. Just as the rewards of doing good acts are increased many folds in Ramadan. It is also the same case of violating the sanity of Ramadan. – Sins are also multiplied. A sin done outside Ramadan is not equal to a sin committed in Ramadan. Just like any worship that is done outside Ramadan, is not equal to worship done in ramadan.

Meaning from a Hadith from Ibn Habban

” Roza is not the name of this, that to leave food and drink.”

Meaning that this is not the reality of fast, that Is only the uniform of fast. It is only the sign of outward of fasting.

“Fasting is to leave the useless actions and to save yourself from obscene thoughts, looking and talking”
