The Devils Story

Someone once said “a look in the history, is not a look into how the ancients lived but rather, how we lived many years ago”. This is a very resonating analogy to draw. It is indeed the case, if you examine human activities throughout the historical time-line, you cannot help but see that the events of our day are just being replayed again. As this has already occurred in the past. Take for example the issues facing the society today. Drugs, gays, illegal sexual activities, oppression etc. These have already been done by the ones before us. The occurrence of homosexuals for example is not a new idea cooked by those so-called ‘liberal thinkers’ but, occurred at the time of syyiduna lut (alihisalam) for the very first time in human history. Therefore understand the consequence of our actions you do not need to ponder and think what it might be, just simply look back in history. See what happened to those who did the same act(s), that went before us.
This leads me on to the post, and my point in writing this more specifically. Harry potter, and Star wars, both global success in the movie and the book (production) outcome fields are based around a story of this person (a student) who is very clever and brilliant at what he does. Excelling beyond words and his colleagues, in what ever he does. In harry potter this particular individual is called ‘Lord voldermot’. who enrolls in the school of ‘the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry’. As the book progress on, born as Tom Marvolo Riddle, this child grows up to being a promising wizard – a good wizard, but down the line he become ‘misguided’ so to speak and then becomes the worst wizard to be known in the wizardry world. Causing atrocities none did before him. Now, on to star wars. There is also a similar storyline.
where a good guy turns out to be a bad one. This is an interesting articles on the, history of the Evolution of Anakin’s Downfall Now my thoughts are, where did the authors of these two stories get their inspiration from?
Was is it a pure genius that they brought out two separate novels which went on to become two of the most highest selling books of all time?
Or does it have historical background to the overall storyline, which is the downfall of a ‘one time’ good guy? well, to understand we can, like i mentioned earlier look back in history. When doing so it becomes clear that these two stories were in fact based on a real and actual event which occurred once already. This is none other than ‘The Devils story’. Our traditions tell us that, (transmitted by our pious predessors). there was a time here on earth, way before our time, a good jinn by the name of Azzazil who used to inhabit the earth with the other jinnkind, – coining a new word. Likewise as with everything there were the good ones and the bad ones. On earth, it reached such a point where the evil jinns were dominating the earth. jinns were being oppressed by other jinns, rape, murder etc, was taking place. This is why we find in the quran, when Allah mentioned to the angels ” i will create a creation who will worship me…” (paraphrased) and the angles reply was “why, o Allah they will cause bloodshed and chaos on the earth…”. (Paraphrased). The ulema mention that the angels gave such a response because they were witnessing what was happening in the world at that time. This pious jinn who was amongst the glimmer of hope for the world lead a number of other pious jinn in jihad against the evil ones and won. Afterwords for a time there was harmony in the world. This pious jinn was so pious that, the mashaykh tell us there is not a single space on earth where he did not do shujood (prostration) to Allah. As, a result because of his piety and servitude Allah (subhanllah’wa’tala) raised him to heaven, to live, and enjoy there. Even there is piety poured out. He would give lessons on the knowledge and ghosis of Allah to the angels. upto 40,000 angles mentioned in some of the transmissions. As time went by, this pious jinn lived happily in heaven until that was, when Allah created Adam (alihis salam). This is where his downfall began (the pious jinn’s). When he was instructed to bow before Adam he simply stood there like a statue, defiant to the command of Allah, when all the other angles who, too were commanded to bow, instantly did it. As a result, as we know, he become cursed and cast out of heaven. Cursed forever and doomed for the hell fire. This one time pious jinn came to be known ‘the iblis’ – Shaitan!
SubhanAllah. What a great lesson for us in this story. We should never be to pleased with our piety. we may be pious now, praying, fasting etc but on one knows our end. May All give us a good end, an end on iman, and save us from this, the evil of ‘self piety’ arrogance and pride – Ameen! Never look down on those who are not praying, fasting or being charitable as their end might be good whereas for you, a not so good end.

Islam is in the spotlight now more than ever before and this has caused people to question the faith itself and none more so than the new-age modernists muslims, largely from the convert western countries who are hell-bent on reforming Islam and its traditional values. This blog is a small space in the vastness of the internet where the fight to preserve, uphold and dignify the traditional inherent human values, are proactively argued against the onslaught of modernist propaganda and hate. Covering topics from current affairs to life-enriching inspirations, though to the traditional teachings of the pious and the awliyah of the past and the present. True indeed. In the path of knowledge if the heart goes unchecked sooner or later all the strengths of the person will be turned against him just by a little tweak in the heart….and he will end up at a place where nobody wants to go.

Allahu Mustaan.
