Last year in 2011, a Phones4 U advert which had a cartoon of Jesus giving the thumbs-up sign and winking, was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). As it was deemed ‘disrespectful’ after nearly 100 people complained. The ad, printed in newspapers before Easter, was ‘disrespectful’ because it gave the impression that Christianity was being mocked, the watchdog said.
A total of 98 people complained about the advert, which boasted of ‘miraculous deals on Samsung Galaxy Android phones’.
Phones4U said the ad was intended to portray ‘a light-hearted, positive and contemporary image’ of Christianity, with no offence intended’, and expressed its regret.
“We considered that, although the ads were intended to be light-hearted and humorous.”
Their depiction of Jesus winking and holding a thumbs-up sign, with the text “miraculous” deals during Easter, gave the impression that they were mocking and belittling core Christian beliefs,”
said the ASA.
“We therefore concluded that the ads were disrespectful to the Christian faith and were likely to cause serious offence, particularly to Christians.”
This is an example of the western hypocrisy! After only receiving a mere 98 complaints they decided to ban the advert. Yet, the anti-Islam film which has caused so much violence, and destruction is left to remain in place. As removing it, is infringing “freedom of speech” and “freedom of expression”. Western governments, Youtube and other media platforms claim. Is this anti-islam film not ‘mocking’ a religion, or more over belittling core Muslim beliefs? Just like the Phones4 U advert had insulted
“core Christian beliefs”
Or, is Islam seen by YouTube as being a justifiable punch-bag to launch and hurl every kind of insults on!
The Phones4U advert only tried to make ‘light’ jokes about Jesus, yet it was forced off all media platforms. What happened to “freedom of speech” and “freedom of expression” then?
The anti-Islam movie, goes far beyond insulting or ‘mocking’. Not to mention the blasphemous content it contains.
- If to deny the holocaust is a crime since denying it, hurts the feeling of some. Then this anti-Islam film also has the same effect. Not just to the millions, but to billions of people this ameture anti-Islam film also seriously hurts and harms the feelings of people. It should be removed and completely banned.
- If the topless photos of Kate Middleton, the duchess of cambridge was banned simply because it hurts the feelings of two individuals and anyone publishing the pictures will have to pay €10,000 with a possible lengthy jail sentence. Then what about the billions of people who have been hurt as a result of this anti-Islam film, garbage? Are they not humans who have the same feelings just like the duchess, the christians and the Jews?
Why is there double standards? If the Christians were offended and hurt by the phones4U advert only slightly mocking the Christian faith, then what about a film which completely attacks, insults and ridicules the very fundamental religious figure of another religion/community?
Just like Jesus and Moses are both revered and held in high esteem. Likewise , there are more than a billion people who also hold Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the same regard. Both Jesus and Moses, as well as Muhammad (peace be on them all) were prophets of God (Allah).
