50cent’s Sprituality

Now, some of you may remember that a while back i had written an article highlighting the turmoil celebrities, pop stars, rappers continually go through in their personal lives. Lives that they live away from the glamour of the television appearances and acts. One of these people who sticks out of the box of matches is 50cent, who’s real name is Curtis Jackson. Curtis Jackson caught my eye a while ago, when i watched a documentary about rappers. He was one of those who seemed to lead a ‘different’ life to the image portrayed in the media, in his own songs and the lyrics.

“50 Cent doesn’t drink or smoke, he meditates with Deepak Chopra,…”

ABC news had an interesting article running on their website about 50 cent recently. 50 Cent Helps U.N. in Africa: Is Rapper’s ‘Next Chapter’ a Mid-Life Crisis? Which really brought home the message once again, that life is more than women, money, houses, fast cars etc. That, the things we go for and are seeing as the ultimate tools to attain peace are in fact the instruments which only serves us to become even more thirsty for peace and tranquil in our lives. Peace, is something we all want and are striving to attain through our individual formulated idea. Some, assume vast quantities of money will help attain this. Whereas others think having the woman or man of their dreams will help them find the answer to the formula for peace. Well, what happens when you reach that tipping point? when you have attained all the money there is to attain? when you have slept with all the women there is to sleep with? what next in life? why is the feeling of emptiness still ravaging through your life?
It seems from the article and the words of 50cent he has reached that stage in life that the fake pleasure tools’ of dunya. (That being, the women, ‘drugs’, money, etc) has not helped fill the gaping hole in his life. 50cent is now in a stage of life, where there is nothing else to attain or to achieve. The criteria of success determined by the world or, as it is determined by the dunya has been fulfilled. But, what now? This is where the real meaning of life comes in and seeps through all the ‘stuck-up display boards’ of life. As he say’s himself;

“I want to be more, not just an artist, but as a person,” 50 Cent said. “My legacy, what’s left behind, I don’t want to be a guy who’s just remembered for writing a few decent songs.”

Life is only the mirror image of what a ‘real’ life is. Or, more importantly should be. – Full of peace and tranquil, a life that is devoid of the rat race, the fast lane and the never-ending hunger for more. A life that know its creator and is in his service. A real life is what the awliyah (the friends of GOD) live. In which, whatever state you are in, there is tranquil and peace, the connection with GOD is the underlying force which runs throughout your life.
Out of the whole article on ABC news website, what struck me more was 50cent’s personal life. – He is searching now, searching for that inner peace and meaning of life everyone deep down is trying to find. Many cover this yearning by their lavish lifestyle, on the other the hand, many celebrities who are bold enough (like 50cent) are able to confront this inner yearning. The yearning that is always wanting to learn more about its creator, its lord. To make sense of all the ugliness that surrounds it.
Many people, like us are running to fill the shoes of people like Curtis Jackson (50cent). The following should give you an idea what i mean;
Tattoos; The loss of Moral and Values in Pakistan
Where as those who are already there, are moving out or at least trying to move out of it. In order to make sense of their true beings’; why they are here? What is this dunya? why is there a constant emptiness that envelopes the many late night parties, fun and pleasures they have.
No matter what you do to curb your screaming soul. The soul, which is screaming because of its neglect and its restlessness to find home again. The home of peace and the worship of its creator. You will at some point in your life succumb to yielding to its demands. Whether you choose to take up buddhist worship to fill the spiritual void in your life or seek other spiritual endeavours, you will no doubt seek ways in which this hunger will have to be fulfilled. There is no escaping from the real meaning of life, and understanding your station/place in it. That, you have been created to worship Allah. That, nothing will give you serenity other than in his service.

While his book, “The 50th law,” and often violent rap lyrics talk about being tough in a cold, hard world, 50 Cent doesn’t drink or smoke, he meditates with Deepak Chopra, he owned a 4-pound dog named Oprah that he liked to dress up and lives in a mansion alone in Connecticut.

You see, every human has two sides to him/herself. The more important side, out of the two, is your spiritual side. No matter how much bravado you show, you will still feel weak inside if there is no spirituality in your life. – Empty, lonely and cold from the inside. The spirit of every human always wants to return to and know its lord. It’s food is the worship of Allah and none other. Nothing will give you peace other than the master of peace who is the only being who can bestow it (if he wills) to his creation. Nothing else, neither; money, wealth,, women, fame, name or honour will give you this.

“This is the next chapter in my life,” 50 Cent said of the Somalia trip. “I don’t care if my audience is prepared to move forward with me, they may not necessarily be growing at the same pace. Some of them will understand it and other will turn their nose up at it, but who cares?

Lastly, remember there is more to life than what meets the eye.
